SLOVENIA’S OLDEST CINEMA VENUE

Mestni kino Ptuj has a long history and, with more than 125 years of continuous operation, is regarded as the oldest active cinema venue in Slovenia. Despite its modern technical equipment, the main hall has retained its romantic retro character, while the smaller hall, furnished with armchairs, creates the atmosphere of a comfortable living room. The Ptuj cinema is also one of the initiators and driving forces behind the Art Cinema Network Slovenia, which connects Slovenian venues dedicated to quality and art-house cinema.

Mestni kino Ptuj is fully active every day from 3 p.m. onwards, attracting both local audiences and visitors from the wider region. During the morning hours, however, the cinema can be reserved for private events with a distinctive nostalgic atmosphere. A corporate event combined with a film screening can be a particularly appealing concept, especially given that this is Slovenia’s oldest cinema. The cinema’s team can also organise themed film gatherings and discussions, while visitors may discover how Ptuj has served as the setting for numerous films. Did you know that Ptuj and its surroundings have appeared in many films and that the region has produced a number of notable filmmakers?

As the cinema’s operators like to say: “Although popular blockbusters remain part of the programme at Mestni kino Ptuj, visitors can see for themselves that outstanding films are not made only in Hollywood.” Located in the picturesque historic centre of Ptuj, at Cvetkov Square 1, the cinema’s main hall accommodates 163 guests, while the smaller hall seats 30.
