Hotel Adriatic, Rovinj

LOCATION
Hotel Adriatic is the key element on the tourist postcard of one of the most picturesque Adriatic towns. The hotel has been deteriorating for a long time and has only after the renovation became the heart and pride of the city centre of Rovinj and its inhabitants. The building that houses the hotel was built in 1892 and first served as a café and extended to a hotel in 1913. After the major renovation done by Maistra, the building started to shine in the spirit of heritage and beautifully complemented the image of the town. Today Hotel Adriatic is the only hotel that due to the courage and vision of its investors embodies the ideas of a boutique city hotel.

ACCESSIBILITY
Rovinj is most elegantly accessible by car. For such guests is well catered for, as the hotel has its own car park and from there the guests are taken through the city centre to the hotel with an electric vehicle. Guests will also appreciate the retro city bikes, which are included in the room rate and are proven to work beautifully on the costal streets and bike lanes. The advantage of the city center location is definitely the easy access to all the main tourist attractions. In recent years, the availability of flights to the nearby airport in Pula has also improved significantly. Additional support is offered by nearby international airports in Trieste, Zagreb and Ljubljana.

COLD APPETIZER – Architecture and Aesthetics
The credits for the architecture of the hotel go to the award winning architectural studio 3LHD from Zagreb. Together with a number of partners in the project the studio was able to preserve the original details. The hotel with more than a hundred works of art like a gallery, since installations, graphics and images can be found everywhere. To fill the place with art, they have hired 14 regional artists, among them also in Slovenia born Jasmina Cibič, who otherwise works in London. Cibič took care of one of the most recognizable (and on Instagram posted) installations Adriatica – flying stuffed white owls that represent the movement from the great past to an unknown future. As a whole it looks luxurious, eclectic, elegant, full of different textures, cool tones and light effects.

WARM APPETIZER – Personnel and cuisine
The Maistra menus are put together by the British chef Andrew Gaskin. His Mediterranean style can be tasted on the plates of Adriatic “brasserie”. The emphasis is on the seafood and Mediterranean dishes. The boutique story continues over the served breakfast in a café like atmosphere that can be described as one of the best breakfast in the Adriatic. Worth mentioning are the chic staff uniforms created by the lead Croatian brand I-GLE that successfully combines classic design with modern details. A great addition is also a large selection of whiskey that are properly served. The selection goes from Japanese Suntory to whiskey from Scotland. The morning macchiato on the hotel terrace can be compared with the Italian competition.

MAIN DISH – The hotel’s congress service
In contrast with the black hall the rooms are white and spacious with tall ceilings decorated with well-preserved stucco. Each hotel room is a piece of art. There are many designer details including the well thought-out hi-tech lighting. The bedding is superb and above standard. Especially exciting are the small details like a personal note from the hotel’s director, homemade elder juice, Illy coffee, the selection of room scents that the guests choose depending on their mood. Unusual is the book of impressions that is some kind of omnigraffle of memories. As a whole the room embodies the ideas of a boutique hotel room.

DESSERT – Extras
Retro bicycles, with which you can go to one of the Maistra’s designer hotels in Rovinj or to your favourite spot on the beach, are definitely a perk. Especially out of season cycling can be a relaxing activity.

FLOP – NEGATIVE SURPRISES
There were no negative surprises during our visit.

TOP – POSITIVE SURPRISES
Small designer details that are unique, well thought-out and inspiring. A positive surprise is also the book of impressions that awaits guests in each room, standard room but furnished with designer furniture with statements evokes a smile on your face.

OVERALL IMPRESSION AND CREDIBILITY
Hotel Adriatic is a synonym for a contemporary boutique designer hotel with state-of-the-art restaurant and fully stocked bar. It is suitable mainly for smaller and more demanding groups. The hotel can be a great starting point for many different programmes in Istria. Among them we especially like the wine story with exceptional winemakers (Kozlovič, Roxanich, Matošević, Kabola …) and taverns (Morgan, Buščina …). We easily imagine a smaller but more demanding incentive group that will combine the services of Maistra that include also many different congress venues available in the old cigarette factory and the congress centre in the hotel Lone. Superb, if not superior boutique hotel that will impress you as well as you congress guests.
