Month of November has been in Ljubljana for the past few years marked with Ljubljana November Gourmet festival – an all-month-long gastronomic event. Last year the Festival was cancelled due to Covid lockdown, however, this year the festival is back in its full glory. Through a series of events, the festival will present the culinary pulse of Ljubljana with the best that the Slovenian capital has to offer — from culinary presentations, gourmet themed events, to wine and beer experiences and workshops.
The festival marking Ljubljana and Slovenia as culinary destinations of Europe is aimed at enriching the tourist experience of Ljubljana in one of the otherwise slowest months of the year. For the whole month, Ljubljana has been transformed into the gourmet hub of Slovenia. Slovenia’s most important culinary names, top winemakers and brewers, producers of food, Ljubljana’s restaurants, etc, provide numerous and rich culinary events for leisure as well as business and congress guests.
During the festival, visitors are on different location able to get acquainted with city’s and region’s typical dishes and beverages through diverse programmes. The culinary walking tour Taste Ljubljana marks popular local dishes that the chefs in selected restaurants prepare according to new cooking methods. The Ljubljana Quality Mark is awarded to the best restaurants, gostilna-style restaurants, and pastry shops in Ljubljana and its wider area.
Then, in selected hotels and restaurants, visitors are able to start their day with a Ljubljana-style breakfast. The breakfas, which is composed exclusively of ingredients from the farms, orchards, and gardens of Ljubljana and its surroundings wider area, is one of the Green Supply Chains experiences. Green Supply Chains project that was launched by Ljubljana Tourism was recently compeeting at the Energy Globe Award 2021 for Slovenia and it won in the “Earth” category, while in 2019 it was shortlisted among the Best Food Destinations of the world.
There are many more events held through the month of the Ljubljana November Gourmet festival, however, certainly, among all, the European Food Summit stands out the most. In three consecutive days, between 6 and 8 November, held under the slogan “EVOKE UP!”, the festival was marked by renowned speakers from all over the world. The event that connects gastronomy, culture, art and architecture, is every year organised by catering company Jezeršek gostinstvo, in cooperation the Slovenian Tourist Board and Ljubljana Tourism.
