RECOGNISING TRAILBLAZING SLOVENIAN AMBASSADORS

The Slovenian Ambassador Programme was launched in 2019 by Slovenian Convention Bureau with the support of the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Ljubljana Convention Bureau at Ljubljana Tourism. Cankarjev dom has been a partner in the project from the very beginning. In three years, the title Slovenian Congress Ambassador was awarded to 67 individuals.

Congress ambassadors are academics, scientists, professionals, businessmen, sportsmen and successful individuals who are experts in their fields, ready to promote their destination and compete to host international events in Slovenia with the support of the local and national convention bureau and its partners.

The team of Cankarjev dom is especially proud that out of 17 congress ambassadors awarded in 2021, five of them organised their conferences in CD. In addition, Prof. Pavel Poredoš, MD, PhD, President of the Slovenian Medical Academy, became the Honorary Congress Ambassador of Slovenia 2021. He has been successfully cooperating with Cankarjev dom to organise scientific congresses and other events with distinguished Slovenian experts for several years.

In an interview upon receiving the esteemed title, Prof. Dr Pavel Poredoš emphasised: “In order to attract an international congress in Slovenia, a relatively small, young country that had been unknown until recently, you have to put a lot of effort into gaining the trust of international associations. In reality, it is about prestige, and many compete to win a bid to host such a congress.”
