A cultural heart in Šiška
Recently renovated, Vodnik Homestead in Šiška has reopened its doors as a cultural hub. The renewed venue now features a transitional hall, a concert stage and a bar. The renovation, which began in January 2023, transformed the former homestead into a contemporary cultural centre. It was here, in 1758, that Valentin Vodnik, the author of the first Slovenian grammar, was born.
The most significant addition is a ground-floor venue with an indoor–outdoor stage and movable walls, allowing literary, musical and discussion-based events to be adapted to different weather conditions. The outdoor area connects harmoniously with the Pri kamniti mizi bookshop and bar.

A cultural laboratory
The renovated Vodnik Homestead is a carefully conceived cultural laboratory that promotes reading culture, illustration, music and the performing arts. It represents a rare combination of tradition and contemporary creativity, supported by a thoughtfully designed programme, a movable stage and the authentic literary presence of Valentin Vodnik. The restoration has also been an important addition to Šiška, which is increasingly emerging as one of the most vibrant districts of Ljubljana.

The programme and the distinctive atmosphere at Vodnik Homestead are curated by Divja misel, also known as the organiser of the annual Knjižnica pod krošnjami (Library Under the Treetops), which brings books and reading corners into parks and courtyards across Ljubljana.
